Vasumathi is having over 19 years of experience in rural and urban livelihood promotion and financial services. She is a graduate of Agricultural Sciences, an MBA and a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB). She is serving as founding director of Telangana Rythu Producer Company Limited, a consortium of FPOs in the state of Telangana and is a Acumen India Regional Fellow 2014. In BASIX, she was heading Financial Inclusion portfolio enabling 3.5 lakh women access banking services while building asset portfolio of Rs 400 Crores to a Private Sector Bank.

She has been recognized by IFC/World Bank for her work on weather Insurance and by ILO for her contributions in conducting Action Research work on occupational safety and health (OSH) project lead by her under Microfinance for decent work wing of ILO. She has national as well as international exposure and travelled to Bangladesh, Switzerland, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Jordan, East Africa, Sri Lanka and North America.

Vasumathi has written couple of papers. One in association with Mr. Vijay Mahajan, Chairman of BASIX Group - “Combining Extension Services with Agricultural Credit: The Experience of BASIX India” - was published in IFPRI 2020 Vision Focus 18 Brief 13 of Innovations in Rural and Agricultural Finance.

She is also a guest speaker, panelist, facilitator and trainer at various discussion forums, workshops and consortium meeting, trainings organized by national and international agencies on livelihoods, agri. finance, value chains, microfinance, innovations, technology solutions, and gender related aspects.
